Being lucky enough to be born alongside the river Fowey in 1962, boats and the river have always featured in my life.
Repairing and maintaining my own boats from a teenager led me to working for a local boatyard here in Fowey, Cornwall, repairing, building and restoring small wooden and grp craft. One of the last jobs I undertook there was the restoration of ‘Bluebottle’ Prince Phillips Dragon class yacht, for the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth, and she was on display for the Queen and Prince Philip when they opened the museum in 2002.
After 20 years of working for someone else, I opened my own wooden boatbuilding workshop in 2003, and this has enabled me to concentrate on the building and restoration of some lovely wooden boats. I was accepted into the Wooden Boatbuilders Trade Association in 2005, and have recently qualified as an Assessor for Wooden Boatbuilding NVQ qualifications.
